Christmas in Kenya 馃應
How do they celebrate?
In Kenya, as the country is a small place, people in these festivities go from being in the city working to their homes with a day off and usually go to their villages and towns, since that is where they originate and that is where the people live most of their families
In Kenya children usually take the role of Mary, Joseph and the wise men and exchange gifts and make their typical Kenyan meals.
Christmas and Boxing Day in Kenya
On the 26th in Kenya, families usually stay up late to wake up on the 26th and most people go back to church and then go to eat, in some cases they are invited to go eat with their friends and something curious is that if you they invited an hour you can't come later as it's taken as disrespectful because it's taken as if you're rushing them to eat
Most people exchange gifts after church on Christmas Eve, rather than when they wake up in the morning on Christmas Day.
What is the most traditional food?
Barbecue is the most traditional Christmas food in Kenya. The great Christmas feast, nyama choma, includes chicken, beef, sheep, and goat as main dishes.
In rural areas, families slaughter their own cattle and prepare the meat, taking great care to choose the best animals for the feast.
How is a Christmas tree in Kenya?
Kenya is not home to fir or pine, so those who choose to put up a tree usually decorate cypresses.
The decorations are the same as those commonly used by North Americans and Europeans, including string lights, tinsel, and glass or acrylic balls.
